Dear Hook Productivity newsletter subscriber,

I'm delighted to write to you about:

Hook 3.4.2

Last week we released Hook 3.4.2. This fixed a recent bug in search that only affected earlier versions of macOS (before macOS 11, aka "Big Sur"). It packaged new and improved software integrations.

Preparation for macOS 12.3

Apple's macOS 12.3 (coming soon) no longer includes Python software libraries, upon which some of Hook's built in software integrations relied. Hook 3.4.2 removes this dependency, as does the version 196 Hook integration which it contains.

If you've enabled automatic updates in Hook, then you've already received the integration updates (version 196) contained in Hook 3.4.2.

Hook 3.5 Public beta (coming soon)

FYI, we are close to releasing Hook 3.5 public beta which will:

When available, the beta will be published here.

Hook's iPad/iPhone software

We're continuing to update our software for iPhone and iPad, which is distributed via Testflight to beta testers. We will open the beta up to more testers next month. Beta testers need to have an account on the Hook Productivity Forum and agree not to disclose information about the new software outside the private forum category to which they'd be invited — until the information is released by CogSci Apps Corp.

Thanks to Tim Stringer for publishing such helpful content!

💡 Hold down the ⌥ key to see "Hook to New As..."

One of Hook's handy commands is Hook to New. This creates a new item whose name is based on the name of the current resource. It hooks the new item to the source, stores the new item, and in some cases tags the new item. Amongst other things, this enables you to quickly take bidirectionally linked (hooked) notes about almost anything, while relieving you from the tedium of information management.

If you'd like to customize the new item's name, hold down the option key while clicking on the title menu and select Hook to New As... or Hook to New <DefaultApp> As.... If you use them often, then you're in luck because these variants each have a keyboard shortcut.

For more information, see All Commands & Shortcuts – Hook.

Tinderbox meetup video

I was delighted to be a guest speaker at the February 19 Tinderbox meetup. The Tinderbox community is extremely knowledgeable, interested and interesting. I provided insight into Hook's past, present and future. We also discussed integration with Tinderbox, of course.

Here's the video (on vimeo) of this meeting. Hook is discussed on the Tinderbox forum, and Tinderbox is discussed on the Hook forum.
